Marlene A Eilers Koenig Collection

Archduke Ferdinand of Austria and Countess Helene zu Toerring-Jettenbach were married on April 10, 1956 in the Byzantine chapel at Schloss Seefeld, near Munich.

The more than 260 guests at the wedding included Ferdinand's first cousin, Archduke Otto, the heir to the Austrian throne, King Umberto of Italy, Prince Albrecht of Bavaria, the head of the Bavarian royal house, the children of the Count of Paris, pretender to the French throne. The Duchess of Kent, the bride's aunt, also attended the wedding. United Press reports that 114 princes and princesses, eighteen dukes and duchesses, and more than 100 counts, countesses, barons, and baronesses, were present for the wedding between Ferdinand, 37, and his 18-year-old bride.

The couple was married in a civil ceremony on April 6 in Munich.

Marlene,

Do you know where Ferdinand spent his childhood and teenage years? His younger brother was born in Munich so I assume the family lived in Bavaria for some time. But were they affected when the Nazi took power? Ferdinand was old enough to fight when World War II broke out. Did he and if he did, with which force?

Thanks.

Claudia
