Mecklenburg Grand Dukes promise consitution

March 4, 1907

Great news for the citizens of tiny Grand Duchies of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and Mecklenburg Schwerin.  The Grand Dukes of these two countries announced earlier today "their purpose to grant Constitutions to their respective duchies."

The New York Times reports that the two grand duchies are the only two German states "still without Constitutions," which has led to frequent criticism in the Reichstag.

The decision by the two Grand Dukes was "evidently in response to outside criticism."
