June 3, 1937
At the Chateau de Candé, in Monts, France, HRH The Duke of Windsor married his American love, Bessie Wallis Warfield. No member of the royal family attended the wedding. Queen Mary believed that the date chosen was deliberate and a slight, as June 3 was King George V's birthday. He would have been 72 years old.
The new Duchess of Windsor, styled as Her Grace, and not Her Royal Highness, wore a "Wallis Blue" gown designed by Mainbocher.
